TenCate Mirafi® geosynthetics are used as integral components in mechanically stabilized earth structures such as retaining walls, slopes, and embankments. TenCate Mirafi® geogrids and high strength geotextiles provide tensile resistance to the soil, thus enhancing its shear strength characteristics. This enables walls, slopes, and embankments to be constructed cost-effectively and quickly. The TenCate Mirafi® geosynthetics used for mechanically stabilized earth system solutions have been designed to offer the ideal characteristics of high tensile strength, low elongation, and low creep.

  • Steepened Slopes

To steepen soil slopes, TenCate Mirafi® geosynthetics are placed in layers during construction to provide tensile resistance and enhance stability.  The facing of the slope can be grass or another facing material.  This technique enables slopes to be constructed to any height at any slope angle.

  • Retaining Walls

TenCate Mirafi® geosynthetics are used to provide stability to temporary and permanent retaining walls. TenCate Miragrid® geogrids are used most commonly with segmental concrete blocks as the facing.  Retaining walls constructed in this manner are economical, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing.

  • Reinforced Embankments

TenCate Mirafi® geosynthetics are placed at the base of embankments to provide stability and limit differential settlement.  Depending on the specific application, the product may be placed directly on the soft foundation, over foundation piles, or over areas subject to void formation prior to the placement of the embankment fill.
